Mixed use development Sanur Bali.
Initial model scans showing configuration of various programmatic and spatial elements.
The project attempts to address the question of meaningful contemporary design in a strongly traditional culture by bringing a range of activities together under the shade of a large mature tree. Through literal openness and direct spatial relationships juxtaposing programmes (dining, exercise, commerce and art) the project explores the Balinese phenomenon of Rame which embodies boisterous celebration and activity. Other thematics include movement and parallax, the comparison of atrium and oculus, light and shadow, growth and stasis, vernacular craft and generic tectonics and the creation of a porous public realm in an increasingly insular commercial culture.
